A QUESTION FROM OTHERWISE · VOLUME I + II
Does a successor owe the creator's purpose to what they inherit?
Inheritance can preserve a useful sequence without preserving the reason it was first performed. Provenance tells a successor where something came from; it need not dictate what the successor is for.
Separate origin from obligation. Preserve enough provenance to learn from the past while leaving the inherited function available for purposes its creator never imagined.
