A QUESTION FROM OTHERWISE · VOLUME I + II
What if measuring behaviour changes the behaviour?
A dashboard can become part of the world it claims merely to observe. Once people learn what earns the score, they begin adapting to the score. Accuracy may improve while reality becomes less independent of the measurement.
Try removing the visible metric from one otherwise similar group. If behaviour diverges, measurement was not only describing the system; it was participating in it.
