A DOOR FROM OTHERWISE · VOLUME II

When does a useful score become the author?

At the next meeting somebody reached automatically for the scoring sheet. Noor did not stop them. The scores were useful. Halfway through, however, Asha asked why the highest score was being treated as permission to decide. The room went quiet. They kept the numbers and removed their authority.

Keep the measurement, then remove its right to decide. If the underlying judgement changes, the score had acquired more authority than its informational role required.
